There may be light at the end of the tunnel, son might be discharged from hospital tomorrow. When we visited this evening he was much perkier, so much so that he had requsted we bring a special fried rice in from his favourite Chinese take-away. Okay, so he didn’t eat too much, but just to see him eating something was wonderful. As well as the rice I took in 2 packs of marshmallows, apparently they are great for people wth an ileostomy, unlike corn, nuts and pineapple, can undersand the corn and nuts but the pineapple?
Earlier DIL and I had been discussing the practicalities of when he was discharged and we had decided that the best option would be for them to come and stay with us, we were both concerned though that son would want to prove his self-sufficiency and insist on going home. We were surprised then when son agreed that staying with us would be the most sensible plan, his confidence has obviously taken a big knock as this is not the obstinate young man we know and love. On the other hand though he must be appreciating that, with baby now overdue, it would be a good idea to have people readily available to transport them (back) to the hospital and support him whilst DIL is in hospital and then home with a new baby.
Thank heavens I am on annual leave next week, I think that I may be rather stretched over the next couple of weeks!

I am glad things are looking up and that you are able to offer them some support – I hope that baby holds out a just a tad longer and gives everyone a bit of time just to breath and get on for a while.
Sending positive vibes to everyone!
Great news that your son is chirpier and eating a little again. It sounds like a fabulous plan for them to come and stay – it is an odd thing but perhaps this situation will help your worries about this grandchild being different because it isn’t your daughter’s/ (Does any of that makes sense?!) Am still hoping for a very happy ending. x
I am glad he is even thinking about food – a good sign surely. It is so wonderful they will be with you for a while and yes, annual leave is going to help you all take a big breath before the birth. Keeping everything crossed still,
Good to read encouraging news…food is such a barometer, isn’t it? Hope he enjoyed his fried rice!
Pineapple has certain enzymes that break down protein. Is this something to to with preserving/protecting the new tissue growth from micro-attack…? (Off the top of my head…)
I’m glad to hear that your son is a little better. I am sure that him and his wife being with you will be a really good idea particularly with the imminent arrival of Tinkerbelle.
Catrine – Thank you!
Lucy – That makes perfect sense. Things are certainly more exciting now, the birthing ball is now in our sitting room and the moses basket is waiting in the spare bedroom.
mumof4 – I cooked one of his favourite meals tonight, risotto, and he managed a small portion. It’s great to have them close.
Deb Acle – I was wondering if it was the fibre, no idea. I know we recommend our post-dates Mums eat under-ripe pineapple because of the enzyme.
Madsadgirl – If Tinkerbelle can just wait another few days it would be perfect.
