Am I just unlucky or is my frustrating experience with this initiative widespread? Having abandoned choosing and booking on-line ,as the hospital I had been referred to hadn’t put any appointments up, it was back to the good old telephone, then letters, but there was still no appointment. Then I got a letter from the hospital itself, a prominent teaching institution, telling me that I would receive an appointment within 2 weeks, that was 4 weeks ago! Yesterday I took the bull by the horns and phoned them. Once I recovered from the concept of being called ‘Poppet’ I then had to keep my incredulity moderated when my new friend at the other end of the phone-line told me that my referral had been evaluated but that I could still not be given an appointment as the clinicians were on leave and had not set up their clinic appointments list??????? BLOODY HELL, no wonder the NHS is in such an organisational and financial mess. This hospital, or probably just this speciality, are failing to action the choose and book system, even though they are part of it and now, from what my little appointments clerk told me, the clinicians do their own thing. Do these employees of the NHS realise that they are the servants of the system, not the overlords?
Plan Wait 2 weeks and if I have not heard anything then return to the G.P and request referral to a different hospital.
