Cartside has tagged me. I’ve been slightly tardy in responding but here goes.
1. Pick up the nearest book of 123 (or more) pages.
Well, there is a bookcase the other side of the room with a multitude of books, fiction, non-fiction, reference, all-sorts but the book nearest to me is ‘Mims, the Prescribing Reference for General Practice’. Scintillating reading! At the moment I’m reading ‘Wicked Beauty’ by Susan Lewis for relaxation. An easy book to read, slightly racy but a book you can pick up, read a few pages and not be completely lost story-wise.
2. Open the book to page 123 and find the 5th sentence.
Reduce dose of levodopa usually by 30% in patients taking more than 600mg levodopa daily, or who have moderate to severe dyskinesias at start of treatment.
3. Post the next three sentences.
Child not applicable. Dopaminergics. Amantadine. ( I can sense everyone rushing out to purchase this entertaining tome. You will be out of luck. Shame! I get it via hand-me-downs from the G.P’s I work with).
4. Tag 5 people.
Firstly, someone I know reads a great deal, Mumof4. Hmmm, next comes a man who will, if he reads this and knows he’s been tagged, doubtless give me some iambic pentameter, Punctuation. Nicola, you’re next, there are some excellent Canadian authors, perhaps you will share one with me. Here comes a man who has worked with books so should have lots to hand, Flighty. Finally, I’m going to fly in the face of reason and see if NHS Blogdoc has alerts when someone links to him and then if he looks to see what they saying. I would love to know what you read for pleasure Dr C.
I’m never keen on being tagged but when I am I do accept it. I often take a while to do so though!
By the way I’d be grateful if you’d change/update my link on your blogroll to http://flightplot.wordpress.com/ which has been my main blog for nearly a year now!
Thanks! xx
Flighty – I’ve changed it. Sorry about how slow I am.
Many thanks! Sorry to say that although the link’s fine my name in the Blogroll isn’t! I reckon that you must have had a long, busy day! xx
Lots and lots and lots, probably about a tenth of what the wonderful Dove Grey Reader gets through. Recently, On Chesil Beach (wonderful, though not Atonement), Resistance by Owen Sheers (alternative WW2 with German occupation of Wales – beautifully written), Notes on a Scandal by Zoe Heller and “The Great Arc” by John Keay. Just started a biography of William Wordsworth. Like the Lake District.
Finally, seriously, if you have not already, you should read MIDWIVES by Chris Bohkjalian. Great novel about a miwife working in the USA. Available on Amazon I am sure. Let me know what you think
John
Dr C – I have read Midwives, and a very thought provoking read it was too!(Also seen the film, not quite the same impact). It certainly made me slightly ‘edgy’ for a while but then I rationalised. Working within SE England I should never find myself in that situation, i.e being marooned by the weather and unable to summon assistance. However, the courtroom scenario is something which I suspect most health professionals have constantly in the back of their minds. I have to admit that when I find myself at a homebirth, where the woman is refusing admission to hospital despite advice to the contrary, images from ‘Midwives’ and horror stories from the media do haunt me.
Am making a note of ‘Resistance’, sounds like a good read.
I’m about half way through Resistance and thoroughly enjoying it.
Have a good weekend. xx
1. The nearest book of the right size at this point is “The best poems of the English language” (well predicted MWM!)
2. “That issue out of dust. Happy thou art not,”
3. “For what thous hast not, still thou striv’st to get,
And what thou hast, forget’st. Thou not certain,
for thy complexion shifts to strange effects,”
This is from Measure for Measure by William Shakespeare. Slightly bizarre that you should suggest it would be iamabic pentameter that I would select – the book has 808 pages and contains many forms of poetry from all sorts of poets – page 123 falls smack bang in the middle of Shakespeare. 🙂
4. I’ll think about 4 people to tag!
Punctuation – I must have been experiencing one of my witchy moments when I’m wont to rant “Hubble, bubble, toil and trouble”. Hope you are well.
Wiiiiitch. 🙂
Yep fine!
I’ve finally got round to doing this!
