The surgeon was happy with how the operation went, apparently son’s colon was in a bad way so it’s good that it, along with the rest of his large intestine and appendix, has gone. We finally got to see him at 10pm last night, they had kept him in recovery to stabilise him and make sure his epidural was working, which unfortunately it isn’t. I would really love to rant about that, and the on-call anaesthetist, but I shall save that until there are more hours in the day, suffice to say that son is in a great deal of pain.  I spoke to son this morning, he was positive and looking forward to being able to drink something. DIL is well, yesterday was really upsetting for her but everyone was very considerate toward her with the surgeon even phoning her after the op to tell her how it had gone and when we would be able to see the patient. Labour Ward have spoken to infection control about son being able to accompany DIL if he is still an in-patient and they have given the all-clear, so it is now just a question of DIL, or more realistically baby, waiting until after the weekend to put in an appearance.

Thank you for all your good wishes, son knows from how many different corners of the world positive vibes have been flowing and thinks that it is amazing people would want to read about a midwife and her family.
